A young winged figure in a trailing white gown rides sidesaddle across the sky on the back of a large violet dragonfly, her long hair streaming behind her as the pair glide low over rolling emerald hills. Above them, Godard paints a soft blue sky stitched with stylized, spiraling clouds that curl like question marks, giving the whole scene the weightless logic of a dream. It is one of the most lyrical and tender images in his catalog, closer in spirit to a storybook illustration than to the playful cocktail scenes most collectors first associate with his name.

The painting reads as a quiet meditation on wonder, escape, and imagination taking flight. The dragonfly, a recurring motif in Godard’s nature work, becomes a vessel carrying the dreamer somewhere just beyond the horizon. A restrained palette of white, violet, sky blue, and deep green lets the figure glow against the open landscape, while Godard’s signature sense of whimsy survives in the curling clouds and the gentle humor of a fairy commuting by insect. Collectors drawn to his more imaginative, fantasy-leaning work will recognize the same bold outlines and saturated color that define his best-known pieces, applied here to a softer, more romantic subject.

Journey of Dreams is produced as a limited edition giclée on gallery-wrapped canvas with 1.5-inch stretcher bars, and it arrives ready to hang without additional framing. It is offered in two editions: an 18" x 28" G edition limited to 100 pieces at $995, and a 26" x 41" Signed and Numbered edition limited to 100 pieces at $1,500. Each canvas is part of a fixed, finite print run.

Edition Details & Sizing

Collectors can choose the size and edition tier that best suits their space and budget. The smaller 18" x 28" G edition is the natural entry point into the image and works beautifully on intimate walls, in hallways, or within a gallery grouping, while the larger 26" x 41" Signed and Numbered edition makes a commanding focal point in a living room, bedroom, or studio. Both editions are capped at 100 prints, making Journey of Dreams one of the more tightly limited images available through Michael Godard Gallery. Because every edition is a closed run, availability only decreases over time; once the G or Signed and Numbered edition sells through, no further canvases of that size or type are produced. Though he is best known for personifying everyday objects, especially his cast of wisecracking olives and martini glasses, Journey of Dreams reveals the quieter, more imaginative end of the same sensibility that built his following.

The Rockstar of the Art World

Godard earned the nickname “the Rockstar of the Art World” for an approach to fine art that feels more like a live show than a gallery hush. Rising to prominence out of Las Vegas, he built a style that fuses pop art’s graphic punch with a comedian’s timing, turning cocktails, grapes, dice, and nightlife into animated characters with attitude. That same graphic clarity, saturated palette, and confident linework carries straight into Journey of Dreams, where it is used not for a punchline but for a mood. The swirling clouds and glowing white figure are rendered with the same decisive edges that make his bar scenes instantly recognizable, proof that the style works just as well on a tender subject as a raucous one.

The Dreaming Side of a Pop Artist

For collectors who know Godard mainly through his olives, Journey of Dreams is a reminder that imagination has always been the engine of his work. Across his career he has returned to fantasy and nature themes, angels, dragonflies, butterflies, and dreamscapes, that let his whimsy breathe in a softer register. This piece sits squarely in that lineage. The fairy astride a dragonfly is pure Godard storytelling: an ordinary flight of fancy made literal, affectionate rather than cynical, and built to make a viewer smile and then linger. It rewards the same close looking his fans bring to his busier compositions, except here the reward is calm instead of comedy.

Dragonflies, Nature, and Limited Edition Collecting

The dragonfly in Journey of Dreams connects it to a whole thread of Godard’s nature work, including pieces such as Dragonfly 2, Aqua Dragonfly, and Butterfly Dreams, where insects and open landscapes replace the casino floor. Like the rest of his catalog, this image is released as a limited edition giclée across defined edition tiers, in this case a G edition and a Signed and Numbered edition, each capped at 100 pieces. That combination of a widely loved artist, a fixed edition size, and a subject that stands apart from his signature work is exactly what makes a piece like this appealing to both longtime Godard collectors and newcomers discovering him through his gentler side.
