About 3 Wishes in Red

3 Wishes in Red pairs a wine bottle labeled "3 Wishes" with a glass of red wine, both wrapped in a glowing, sparkling ribbon of pink light that curls upward like a genie's wisp granting a wish. It is a quieter, more atmospheric piece than many of Godard's crowded bar scenes, built on mood and light rather than a cast of personified characters, and it speaks directly to fans of wine cellar art, wine and vineyard wall art, and the wider grape and cork themed corner of Godard's catalog.

The piece carries the same hallmark style collectors know Godard for: bold outlines, saturated color, and a wink of personality worked into the composition, here applied to a subject built around celebration rather than his usual olive characters. Where the wine theme fits in Godard's work

Wine and the wine cellar are a recurring setting in Godard's catalog, pairing bottles and glasses with the same glowing light and theatrical color that define his bar and casino pieces. 3 Wishes in Red leans into mood over crowd, letting the wine itself carry the scene rather than a cast of olive characters, which makes it a natural companion to his other wine cellar and vineyard pieces and an easy entry point for collectors furnishing a wine room or dining space around wine-themed wall art.

About Michael Godard

From draftsman and drummer to "Rockstar of the Art World"

Born in 1963 and later based in Las Vegas, Godard studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and at UNLV, and spent years working as a draftsman and commercial illustrator, and drumming in Las Vegas bands, before painting full time. The turning point was a friend's request for a birthday painting about dirty martinis: he answered with personified, animated olive characters full of attitude, and that became the visual language behind the nickname collectors know him by, the "Rockstar of the Art World."

The signature style

His pop art is instantly recognizable, personified olives, grapes, and other characters set against high-contrast backgrounds, rendered with theatrical exaggeration and a satirist's sense of timing, plus the small hidden details that reward repeat viewing. 3 Wishes in Red applies that same craft to a quieter subject, the wine bottle and glass, which is exactly what you see here.

Beyond the canvas, and giving back

His book Don't Drink and Draw, with a foreword by friend and collector Ozzy Osbourne, was named an Art Book of the Year in 2006. Since 2006, following the loss of his daughter Paige to brain cancer at 16, the artist has maintained an ongoing charitable relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and related causes. This title joins a catalog of limited edition fine art he has been building for more than twenty years. For the complete story, read the full artist biography.
