About A Symphony of Frogs

This piece gathers Godard's amphibian characters into a single group composition, a chorus rather than the solo figures collectors know from his Frog Triptych. It carries the bold, saturated color, sharp outlines, and comic character work that run through his pop-art catalog, turned here toward the nature-and-wildlife side of his subject matter rather than the martini and Las Vegas themes he is best known for.

Like the rest of his limited editions, the work rewards close viewing: Godard is known for tucking hidden names, dates, and initials into his compositions, so small details keep surfacing long after the print is on the wall. It appeals to collectors of frog art, nature and wildlife wall art, and safari-themed decor. If you are ready to start or grow a collection, browse the full range of Michael Godard art for sale.

Where the frogs fit in Godard's work

The frogs are one of Godard's most beloved recurring subjects. Where the three-panel Frog Triptych tells a small love story across separate frames, searching, wondering, and finally finding, this composition brings the characters together in one frame. The appeal is the same personified-character approach he built around his martini olives, extended to a different cast, with each figure given its own pose, expression, and comic timing. That makes the piece a natural companion to the triptych panels and an easy entry point into the nature-and-wildlife corner of a catalog most people first meet through his nightlife work.

About Michael Godard

From draftsman and drummer to "Rockstar of the Art World"

Born in 1963 and later based in Las Vegas, Godard studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and at UNLV, and spent years working as a draftsman and commercial illustrator, and drumming in Las Vegas bands, before painting full time. The turning point was a friend's request for a birthday painting about dirty martinis: he answered with personified, animated olive characters full of attitude, and that became the visual language behind the nickname collectors know him by, the "Rockstar of the Art World."

The signature style

His pop art is instantly recognizable, personified olives, grapes, and other characters set against high-contrast backgrounds, rendered with theatrical exaggeration and a satirist's sense of timing, plus the hidden names, dates, and initials that reward repeat viewing. The frog works apply that same craft beyond the martini glass, which is exactly what you see in this piece.

Beyond the canvas, and giving back

His book Don't Drink and Draw, with a foreword by friend and collector Ozzy Osbourne, was named an Art Book of the Year in 2006. Since 2006, following the loss of his daughter Paige to brain cancer at 16, the artist has maintained an ongoing charitable relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and related causes. This title joins a catalog of limited edition fine art he has been building for more than twenty years. For the complete story, read the full artist biography.
