About Cardinal Wine

Cardinal Wine depicts a red cardinal perched on a weathered wood ledge beside a cluster of deep purple grapes and a glass of red wine, rendered in Godard's signature bold, saturated color palette. It suits kitchen and dining room decor, and appeals to collectors of grape and cork themed art within his wider catalog.

Part of Godard's expanding catalog of recent limited edition fine art, it continues his best-known visual language, personified characters and richly colored still-life imagery set against wine, cocktail, and party-culture scenes, the same territory that first built his reputation as the "Rockstar of the Art World." A wine-and-grape theme

Cardinal Wine continues Godard's long-running exploration of wine and grape imagery, pairing the deep red of a cardinal bird with the equally deep red of the glass beside it. It is one of his more recent releases, and it pairs naturally with his other kitchen and wine-cellar pieces for collectors building out a themed room.

About Michael Godard

From draftsman and drummer to "Rockstar of the Art World"

Born in 1963 and later based in Las Vegas, Godard studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and at UNLV, and spent years working as a draftsman and commercial illustrator, and drumming in Las Vegas bands, before painting full time. The turning point was a friend's request for a birthday painting about dirty martinis: he answered with personified, animated olive characters full of attitude, and that became the visual language behind the nickname collectors know him by, the "Rockstar of the Art World."

The signature style

His pop art is instantly recognizable, personified characters and richly colored still-life subjects set against high-contrast backgrounds, rendered with theatrical exaggeration and a satirist's sense of timing, plus the hidden names, dates, and initials that reward repeat viewing.

Beyond the canvas, and giving back

His book Don't Drink and Draw, with a foreword by friend and collector Ozzy Osbourne, was named an Art Book of the Year in 2006. Since 2006, following the loss of his daughter Paige to brain cancer at 16, the artist has maintained an ongoing charitable relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and related causes.
