About Christmas Wine

This piece gives two of Godard's personified bar-tool characters, dressed in Santa hats, a dance together outside a wine-barrel cabin with a snow-covered roof and a wine-bottle chimney, set against a night sky lit up with the Northern Lights. Holiday imagery is a rare visitor to Godard's catalog, which is more often associated with cocktails, casinos, and Las Vegas nightlife, making this seasonal piece an unusual entry rendered in the same saturated color and theatrical exaggeration that defines his work.

The piece appeals to collectors of kitchen and dining room art, grape and cork themed decor, and holiday-season wall art. If you are ready to start or grow a collection, browse the full range of Michael Godard art for sale.

A holiday scene in Godard's catalog

This piece stands out in Godard's catalog for its seasonal subject: the personified bar-tool characters and Northern Lights setting are a departure from the martini glasses, casinos, and nightlife scenes most collectors associate with him. As a recent release, it sits alongside other new titles like Chocolate Kisses and Chick Magnet, applying the same character-driven craft to a new theme, here built around the winter holidays rather than a bar or casino floor.

About Michael Godard

Born March 10, 1963, and later based in Las Vegas, Godard studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and at UNLV, and spent years working as a draftsman and commercial illustrator, and drumming in Las Vegas bands, before painting full time. A friend's request for a birthday painting about dirty martinis led him to answer with personified, animated olive characters full of attitude, the visual language behind the nickname collectors know him by, the "Rockstar of the Art World."

His pop art is instantly recognizable: personified characters, bold saturated color, and theatrical exaggeration, plus the hidden names, dates, and initials he is known for tucking into his compositions, rewarding repeat viewing. Christmas Wine applies that same craft to a holiday scene.

His book Don't Drink and Draw, with a foreword by friend and collector Ozzy Osbourne, was named an Art Book of the Year in 2006. Since 2006, following the loss of his daughter Paige to brain cancer at 16, the artist has maintained an ongoing charitable relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and related causes.
