About Michael Godard
Let's Fly Away sends one of Michael Godard's olive characters airborne, a small variation on a concept that has proven endlessly flexible since it first appeared. That concept was born from a favor: a friend asked Godard to paint something for a birthday celebrating dirty martinis, and he answered by giving the olive inside the glass a face, arms, and a distinct attitude. The idea took hold, and Godard built an entire career around personified olives, later joined by grapes and strawberries, all rendered against the bold black backgrounds that have become his visual signature.
