About Michael Godard
Like a G folds gangster iconography into Michael Godard's familiar olive characters, one more example of how far he has pushed a concept that began as a simple birthday gift. A friend once asked him to paint something built around dirty martinis, and instead of a plain still life, Godard gave the olive in the glass a face and a personality, a decision that grew into the pop-art language of personified olives, grapes, and strawberries he still uses today, all set against flat black backgrounds so the color underneath reads with maximum contrast.
