About ArchAngel
ArchAngel is part of Michael Godard's expanding catalog of limited edition fine art, rendered in his signature bold, saturated color palette with the same theatrical exaggeration and craftsmanship collectors recognize across his work. It belongs to the more reflective, symbolic side of his catalog, using his high-contrast style to carry a quieter, more personal message than his party-culture pieces, and it appeals to collectors of meaningful home decor and inspirational wall art.
As with all of Godard's limited editions, the piece rewards close viewing: he is known for tucking hidden names, dates, and initials into his compositions, giving collectors new details to find long after the piece is on the wall. The inspirational side of Godard's work
Since 2006, following the death of his sixteen-year-old daughter Paige to brain cancer, Michael Godard has channeled a significant part of his energy into charitable work, and pieces like ArchAngel sit close to that emotional core of his career. Where most of his catalog leans on humor and nightlife imagery, this smaller inspirational body of work trades the comic timing for a more personal, symbolic register, while keeping the same bold color and craftsmanship collectors know from the rest of his output.
About Michael Godard
From draftsman and drummer to "Rockstar of the Art World"
Born in 1963 and later based in Las Vegas, Godard studied at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and at UNLV, and spent years working as a draftsman and commercial illustrator, and drumming in Las Vegas bands, before painting full time. The turning point was a friend's request for a birthday painting about dirty martinis: he answered with personified, animated olive characters full of attitude, and that became the visual language behind the nickname collectors know him by, the "Rockstar of the Art World."
The signature style
His pop art is instantly recognizable, personified olives, grapes, and other characters set against high-contrast backgrounds, rendered with theatrical exaggeration and a satirist's sense of timing, plus the hidden names, dates, and initials that reward repeat viewing. ArchAngel shows that same craftsmanship applied to a quieter, more symbolic subject.
Beyond the canvas, and giving back
His book Don't Drink and Draw, with a foreword by friend and collector Ozzy Osbourne, was named an Art Book of the Year in 2006. Since 2006, following the loss of his daughter Paige to brain cancer at 16, the artist has maintained an ongoing charitable relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and related causes, a commitment this piece directly reflects.
