Gondola Grapes belongs to Michael Godard's wine cellar art catalog, rendered in the saturated color and theatrical exaggeration that has defined his work since he began painting personified characters in the 1990s.
This piece speaks to fans of wine cellar art, wine and vineyard wall art, and Godard's wider grape and cork themed catalog.
"I always thought that the most sophisticated people in the world are the ones who travel to Venice, so I pictured these two grapes being guided by a gondolier inside the glass of red wine." ~ Michael Godard

About Michael Godard
"Gondola Grapes" moves Michael Godard's personified grape characters out of the vineyard and into a Venetian setting, using familiar landmarks and a travel-scene backdrop rendered in the same bold-outline, saturated-color treatment as his cocktail pieces. Romance sits at the center of the composition here, another recurring thread across his European-set canvases.
