About Michael Godard
Happy Hour puts Michael Godard's olive characters back where they started, a cocktail scene rendered with the same bold black backgrounds and saturated color that first defined his career. That career began with a single request: a friend asked for a birthday painting built around dirty martinis, and Godard gave the olive in the glass a face, arms, and a personality rather than treating it as a garnish. The idea proved durable enough to expand into grapes and strawberries and to carry an entire body of work forward for decades.
