About Michael Godard
A painting like Mr. Smooth, with its cigar-and-martini poise, sits at the center of what Michael Godard has spent decades building: a body of work where personified olives carry as much personality as any human figure could. But the artist behind that character has a history that rarely makes it onto the wall label. Since 2006, following the death of his sixteen-year-old daughter Paige to brain cancer, Godard has been a steady presence in the fight against pediatric illness, supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Nevada Cancer Institute, and the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation. He makes regular hospital visits to paint alongside children who are sick or disabled, and St. Jude formally honored his contributions in 2017.
