About Michael Godard
"The Splash" is a martini-and-olive composition from Godard's foundational cocktail series, and his signature personified olives anchor the scene. It belongs to a body of work whose commercial success has helped fund one of the more sustained charitable commitments in contemporary fine art. The death of his daughter Paige from brain cancer in 2006, when she was sixteen, led Godard toward sustained charitable work with organizations including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Nevada Cancer Institute, and the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation; he continues to visit hospitals to paint with children who are ill, and St. Jude honored him for it in 2017.
