About Michael Godard
"Drink" pairs a simple visual pun, a crosswalk signal reimagined as a martini glass, with the streetwise mood Michael Godard has cultivated across more than 30 years of nightlife-themed painting. In the artist’s own account, he wanted a martini glass in the composition without literally painting one, so he built the glass out of light spilling from a street lamp instead, a solution that says as much about his instincts as a working artist as it does about the finished image.
