About Michael Godard
Nasbar 2 belongs to the branch of Michael Godard's catalog where his olive characters trade the cocktail lounge for the racetrack, and the painting only makes sense once you know how that visual language began. A friend once asked Godard, then a working drummer and draftsman in Las Vegas, to paint something for a birthday built around dirty martinis. He gave the request a face: a personified olive with arms, expression, and attitude, set against flat black so the color underneath would read as loud as a stage light. That single commission became the engine behind almost everything he has painted since, and pieces like this one, with its automotive energy folded into the same cast of characters, show how far he has stretched that original idea without abandoning it.
