Waking Waltz reimagines Michael Godard's signature liquid-in-motion style around coffee rather than cocktails. A dark splash of coffee and a stream of pouring white cream twist together in mid-air above a plain white cup and saucer, taking the shape of two dancers caught mid-turn. The cream arcs down from an unseen pitcher at the upper right and feeds the swirl below, while the coffee splash doubles as the cup's contents cresting upward, a visual pun that turns an everyday pour into a duet. Set against a stark white background with no other props, the piece relies on precise fluid rendering rather than the bar and casino imagery found across much of Godard's catalog, a reminder of the range his bold, high-contrast style can cover.
