Grape Confusion is a limited edition canvas giclée by Las Vegas pop artist Michael Godard, offered in the G, Signed & Numbered, V, and Gallery Proof editions at 17.5" x 26.5" and 28" x 42.5".
This piece is the grand finale of one of Godard's most ambitious wine themes, the pairing of his "7 Deadly Zins" and "7 Heavenly Chards." In it, the Heavenly Grapes scramble to keep the sinful grapes out of Heaven: they lock the gates and snip the make-shift ladder with a pair of scissors, Gluttony sits stunned and clutching a chicken leg because he is too heavy for the vine to hold, and Pride has abandoned the others to their folly. Above and below, good and bad play out their eternal struggle, and, as in any happy ending, the Heavenly Grapes keep the upper hand. It is packed with detail and dark comedy, which makes it a standout for a wine cellar, dining room, or kitchen.
"Its finally here, Grape Confusion! The final in the series of 7 Deadly Zins and 7 Heavenly Chards. The Heavenly Grapes rush to keep the Zinful Grapes out of Heaven! They lock the gates and snip the make-shift ladder with scissors. Gluttony, being too fat for the vine to support, sits stunned clutching a chicken leg. Pride, being too prideful, has left his brethen to their folly. Above and below, the eternal struggle of good and bad. As in every happy ending, it's clear the Heavenly Grapes still maintain the upper hand." ~ Michael Godard
This is a gallery wrapped canvas.
- Gallery Proof features a 5 color paint embellishment

About Michael Godard
Grape Confusion shows Michael Godard at his most story-driven, closing out a multi-painting wine saga with fire, smoke, and a cast of bewildered grape characters. It runs on the same visual formula that has defined his work for more than 30 years, personified fruit rendered with exaggerated expression and set against a high-contrast background built to make every color pop. The chaos in the scene is entirely on purpose, a comic setup rather than an accident, and the willingness to build out whole narrative series like the Zins and Chards is a big part of why collectors keep following his catalog.
