About Michael Godard
"O' Canada" is a satirical, pop-culture martini scene, and the olive cast stands in for a familiar cultural reference, played for laughs. It belongs to a body of work whose commercial success has helped fund one of the more sustained charitable commitments in contemporary fine art. In 2006 Godard's daughter Paige died of brain cancer at sixteen, and in the years since he has stayed closely involved with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Nevada Cancer Institute, and the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation, including regular hospital visits where he paints alongside children who are seriously ill. St. Jude honored him for that work in 2017.
